Or...the day we confirmed our suspicions that:
a fresh pony + freezing temperatures + no warm up = not a good dressage test...LOL.
Oh well...it was a fabulous day and we still all managed to have a great time.  Gorgeous weather (by afternoon),
beautiful ponies, good company and good food and drink added up to a pretty swell day.  :-)

I had asked for a fancy new harness, for Ollie, for my birthday, and it arrived the week before the HDT....
so we tried to all arrive early and get it fitted to him, but with numb fingers and stiff/cold leather, it took longer
than we anticipated.  By the time we realized we were out of time, it would have taken just as long to switch
back to his beta harness, so we pressed ahead.  In the end, he looked great, but with no warm-up and rushing
into the ring, the test was not one of his best.  From there, they headed straight into cones and did the most
amazing cones course we've ever seen...had a huge cheering section on the rail...only to find out they
mistakenly went on the outside of the start gate (it was a little deceiving...the way it was set up), so got the
big "E" (eliminated)...darn!

They did fabulous in marathon...a longish course with 4 hazards, ending up 4th out of 10, in his very first HDT,
so we're very pleased.  JoAnn has done a fabulous job conditioning him.  He's carrying nice weight, yet was
still bordering on fresh after the marathon...hardly a sweaty hair on him.  Many of the horses came in blowing
and lathered.  They had no problem making the times, and actually had to jog in the last portion, to avoid time
penalties for being too fast.

Received a lot of attention from folks, as usual...many people asking who/what he was and lots of comments
about his appearance/presence.

I didn't have much luck with pictures, but have a clip of the final 35 seconds of them "smokin' " on the cones course, on youtube...check out the video...

Well Done to JoAnn and Ollie!!

We want to give another huge thanks to JoAnn Wilson
for her determination, dedication and expertise, in training and showing Ollie!!
